NAFCON Accreditation Fears

There might be plausible fears spreading among students of the Nigerian Air Force College of Nursing Sciences NAFCON, Kaduna, that the programme they have paid for might in part be failing accreditation by NMCN and NELFUND.

New intakes of NAFCON admitted through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by JAMB have expressed sadness at finding out rather late, from older students that the set that just graduated are yet to get their promised internship posting because NMCN has not approved NAFCON’s internship programmes.

Not only that, while the HND I students are able acquire the RN licence, no student of NAFCON has yet successfully obtained either the RM or RPHN licence.

The Nigerian Air Force College of Nursing Sciences NAFCON (https://nafcons.edu.ng/), Kaduna, runs a 4-year ND/HND Nursing programme, with opportunities to sit for NMCN professional examination leading to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN)/Registered Midwife (RM) or as a Registered Nurse (RN)/Registered Public Health Nurse (RPHN).

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria NMCN (https://nmcn.gov.ng/) regulates and controls the practice of Nursing and Midwifery chiefly by providing accreditation of training institutions such a NAFCON and conducting relevant Professional Examinations.

The Federal Government Student Loan Initiative NELFUND (https://nelf.gov.ng/) seeks to break financial barriers in higher education through the provision of interest-free loans. Students of NAFCON are however shut out of this programme as the school authorities have so far failed to enrol them with NELFUND.
